50/50 celebrations, marking Swaziland's 50th anniversary of independence from Great Britain as well as King Mswati III's 50th birthday, are planned throughout the country for April 19. The main celebration will be held at the Mavuso Exhibition Centre, which will be streamed live to the rest of the country. April 20 has also been declared a public holiday.

On April 12, the Swaziland National Union of Students plans to protest the extravagant spending of the 50/50 celebrations.
