An uptick in gang-related violence was reported in Belize City over the weekend of March 17-18. According to security officials, at least five homicides were reported in less than 26 hours. Additional incidents of gang-related violence and a heightened security presence are expected in Belize City, particularly in the Southside area, in the coming days and weeks.

Individuals in Belize City are advised to exercise an increased level of vigilance regarding crime (carry only small amounts of cash, leave copies of passports/credit cards in a safe location, etc.). Keep in mind that criminals are often armed; if confronted, never offer resistance.
