On Thursday, April 19, King Mswati III announced that the Kingdom of Swaziland would officially be renamed the Kingdom of eSwatini. The announcement was made during celebrations for the country's 50th anniversary of independence from Great Britain as well as King Mswati III's 50th birthday. eSwatini means "Place of the Swazi" in the local language.
