According to the Sri Lankan Disaster Management Centre, an ongoing drought in 11 districts of northern Sri Lanka has affected at least 613,326 people. According to government officials, Puttalam district has been the most affected by the lack of rainfall. A lower-than-average crop yield is expected this year and the imposition of water rationing measures is possible in northern Sri Lanka in the coming weeks if drought conditions persist.
Individuals in Sri Lanka are advised to conserve water when possible, to monitor developments to the drought situation, and to follow instructions given by local authorities.
