At least one person was killed and three others injured when a train derailed in the Jambyl region around 13:25 (local time) on Sunday, June 17. Nine cars of a passenger train derailed, including three that overturned completely. The incident was reportedly caused by the sudden braking of the conductor after seeing a buckled rail. Disruptions are expected on the line connecting the capital Astana to Almaty on Monday, June 18; residual disruptions in the coming days should not be ruled out.


Individuals traveling to Astana or Almaty via rail are advised to confirm the status of their trains and allow for longer travel times.
