A magnetic improvised explosive device (MIED) detonated on a government vehicle in Kabul's Kota Sangi (Police District 5) area at approximately 21:40 (local time) on Saturday, June 30, wounding at least one person. Early reports indicate the target was either a National Directorate of Security (NDS) or a Ministry of Public Health vehicle. No group has yet claimed responsibility for the blast. Police cordons and traffic restrictions were put in place immediately after the attack and localized transportation disruptions should be expected in the coming hours.
The security environment in Afghanistan remains complex. Although travel is permissible in some areas, other areas should be considered strictly off limits. Professional security advice and support should be sought prior to travel.
