An armed attack was perpetrated in the village of Santa María Ecatepec (Oaxaca state) on Monday, July 16. At least 13 people were killed and another three have been reported missing. The ambush is believed to be linked to a long-running land dispute and committed by residents of the nearby village of San Lucas Ixcotepec. Further acts of violence are possible. State police forces have been deployed to the area to maintain order.


Individuals are advised to avoid the above villages until the situation stabilizes.
