Another public transportation strike is set to take place on Monday, July 23, beginning at 08:00 (local time). Municipal bus drivers, taxi drivers, and moto-taxi drivers will all take part. Associated protests and roadblocks, with the potential to trigger clashes between demonstrators and security forces, are possible throughout the country, both on highways and on city streets. Schools have been temporarily closed as a consequence of the action.
Associated strikes have been held since July 19, organized to demand lower fuel prices. Further such strikes are possible in the coming days.
Individuals in Honduras are advised to avoid all protests as a precaution, never attempt to cross a roadblock without authorization, and be prepared for increased traffic congestion on strike days. More generally, individuals in Honduras are advised against using public transportation and inter-city buses for security reasons.
