Event

Following failed negotiations with the government, public transportation workers renewed nationwide strikes on Friday, July 27. Taxis and buses have been observed blocking roads in Dos Caminos (Cortés department), and Villanueva (Cortés department), as well as on Highway CA-4 in Santa Rosa de Copán (Copán department) . Additional associated protests and roadblocks, with the potential to trigger clashes between demonstrators and security forces, are possible throughout the country, both on highways and on city streets.

Context

Associated strikes have been held since July 19, organized to demand lower fuel prices. The strike had been suspended since July 23 to facilitate negotiations with the government.

Advice

Individuals in Honduras are advised to systematically avoid all protests due to the risk of violence and to refrain from using public transportation and inter-city buses at all times for security reasons.
