Event
A magnitude-7 earthquake struck off the northern coast of Lombok at 19:46 (local time) on Sunday, August 5, prompting local authorities to issue a tsunami warning. People currently near the ocean have been urged to move to higher ground. Details are still emerging and it is unclear whether any casualties or significant material damages occurred as a result of the quake. Aftershocks are possible in the area in the coming hours and days.
Context
Indonesia lies within the active seismic zone known as "the Pacific Ring of Fire." On July 29, a 6.4-magnitude earthquake struck southwest of Lelongken, resulting in at least 14 deaths.
