Storm Nadine hit northern Germany late on Thursday, August 9 (local time). Orange wind alerts issued by the German weather service DWD remain in place in various areas, notably along the North Sea coast; lower yellow alerts are in effect in other northern areas, including the cities of Berlin and Hamburg. The national rail operator Deutsche Bahn has warned of significant rail disruptions due to blocked rails. A number of high-speed, international, and regional lines have been closed, with disruptions expected to continue on some lines through Sunday, August 12. Road closures are also possible in affected areas. Significant flight disruptions were reported August 9 but operations have stabilized as of Friday morning.

Individuals in affected areas are advised to keep abreast of weather forecasts, anticipate transportation disruptions, and follow any instructions issued by local authorities.
