Eight people died and two others have been reported missing in Jingyuan county (Gansu province; northwest) as of Friday, August 10, due to floods that struck near the city of Bayin. The area has been experiencing torrential rain since the evening of August 9 (local time). Search and rescue operations are still underway.


Deadly floods struck the province previously on July 19, killing 12 in Linxia Hui Autonomous Prefecture.


Individuals present in affected areas are advised to keep abreast of weather forecasts, minimize nonessential travel and outdoor activities, anticipate local road traffic restrictions, and adhere to any instruction issued by the local authorities.
