TIMEFRAME expected from 8/10/2018, 12:00 AM until 8/17/2018, 11:59 PM (Pacific/Auckland). COUNTRY/REGION New Zealand

Beginning on August 10, single-use plastic shopping bags will be progressively banned in the country for environmental reasons. The measure will be phased in over the coming year. Hundreds of millions of single-use plastic bags have been used every year in the country, with negative consequences on marine life.

According to a UN report released in June, up to five trillion grocery bags are used globally each year. Over 60 countries have already introduced bans and fines on single-use plastic items such as bags.

Individuals present in New Zealand are advised to comply with this new regulation.
