Eight killed, thousands displaced after heavy rain hits Karnataka states’s Kodagu district August 20

Heavy rain and associated flooding have been reported in Karnataka state's Kodagu district. At least eight people have been killed as of Monday, August 20, and thousands others have evacuated. A number of landslides have also been reported and kilometers of roads have been damaged. Flooding has also been reported in several coastal districts (e.g. in Malnad and Uttara Kannada).


Meanwhile, severe flooding continues to affect neighboring Kerala state.


Individuals in affected areas of Karnataka are advised to be prepared for further flooding and landslides, minimize nonessential outdoor activities, anticipate associated transportation disruptions, and adhere to any instructions issued by local authorities.
