Police confirmed that two cars were set ablaze shortly before 02:00 (local time) on Monday, August 20, in a parking garage on Atterbomsgatan Road in Gränby (Uppland province). Roughly 100 other vehicles were damaged in a subsequent blaze. On August 18, eight separate arson attacks against cars were reported throughout western Sweden. Police are investigating the incidents.


Approximately 80 cars have been set on fire in Gothenburg and throughout western Sweden since August 13. It was not immediately clear whether the incidents were connected, and the motive for the arson attacks remain unclear as of August 20.


Individuals in the abovementioned areas, and Sweden more generally, are advised to monitor the situation and report any suspicious behavior or activity to the local authorities.
