Kenya News Alert

Intercommunal clashes break out in Narok county on August 21; at least 15 people wounded

TIMEFRAME expected from 8/21/2018, 12:00 AM until 8/25/2018, 11:59 PM (Africa/Nairobi). COUNTRY/REGION Narok county

Violent clashes broke out on the morning of Tuesday, August 21 (local time), in the Trans Mara area of Narok county. According to reports, at least 15 people were wounded in the clashes, which reportedly took place between two clans fighting over land rights. Additional security forces have been deployed to the area; nevertheless, further clashes are possible in the coming days.

Individuals in Narok county are advised to monitor the situation, remain vigilant, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities.

On a separate note, due to the significant terrorist threat and other security concerns, many Western governments advise against travel to a number of regions in the country, including areas bordering Somalia (i.e. parts of Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, and Lamu counties), Ethiopia, and South Sudan, as well as nonessential travel to the city of Mombasa. Several Nairobi neighborhoods, including Eastleigh and Pangani, are also best avoided.
