Severe sandstorms, with winds of up to 115 km/h (71 mph) were reported in Iran's Sistan and Baluchestan province on Monday, August 20. According to health officials, at least 95 people were hospitalized on August 20-21 for breathing-related problems. Further sandstorms, and associated transportation disruptions caused by low visibility, are possible in the area in the coming days.
All those present in affected areas are advised to keep abreast of the situation via weather forecasts, to be vigilant if driving, and to be cautious in areas where visibility is particularly poor.
