Kenya: Transportation disruptions amid flood in Eldoret August 24

Kenya News Alert

Severe flooding causes transportation disruptions in Eldoret on August 24; flight disruptions possible

TIMEFRAME expected from 8/24/2018, 12:00 AM until 8/27/2018, 11:59 PM (Africa/Nairobi). COUNTRY/REGION Eldoret

Severe flooding was reported on the afternoon (local time) of Friday, August 24, in Eldoret (Uasin Gishu county), following the overflow of a river in Kapseret caused by heavy rains. As Friday evening, it is unclear if the flooding has led to any casualties or material damage. Nevertheless, severe transportation disruptions have been reported on roads near Eldoret International Airport (EDL). Flight disruptions (including delays and cancelations) are possible in the coming hours. Further flooding is possible in the near-term as heavy rains are forecast in Eldoret through early September.

Individuals present near Eldoret are advised to keep abreast of local weather forecasts, anticipate localized flooding and associated transportation disruptions, plan alternate routes, and adhere to any instructions issued by local authorities. Remember that driving or walking through running water can be dangerous - 15 cm (6 in) of running water is enough to knock over an adult.
