Unions representing taxi drivers have called for a demonstration to take place in Guatemala City on Monday, August 27. According to union representatives, the demonstration is being organized to protest ride-sharing services. Demonstrators are expected to rally at several locations in the city beginning at 08:30 (local time) before marching to the Public Ministry. A heightened security presence and associated transportation disruptions are anticipated near all demonstration sites. Reduced taxi availability and increased demand for other forms of transportation (bus, metro, other car services) are also to be anticipated.
Individuals in Guatemala City are advised to allow for extra time to reach their destinations and avoid all protests as a precaution.
