Military kills three Boko Haram fighters in village of Mayanti (Borno state) August 24

TIMEFRAME expected from 8/25/2018, 12:00 AM until 9/1/2018, 11:59 PM (Africa/Lagos). COUNTRY/REGION Borno State, Nigeria

Nigerian security forces clashed with Boko Haram militants in the village of Mayanti (Borno state) on Friday, August 24. According to a military spokesperson, at least three Boko Haram fighters were killed in the fighting. Security forces reportedly seized weapons and ammunition. Further clashes between Boko Haram fighters and the Nigerian military are possible in the area in the coming days.

The northeastern region of Nigeria is highly susceptible to attacks by Boko Haram. While Nigerian military forces have pushed insurgents from much of their previously claimed territory over the past year, attacks by the group have been on the rise since June 2017.

The security environment in Nigeria remains complex. Although travel is permissible in some areas, other areas should be considered strictly off limits. Professional security advice and support should be sought prior to travel.
