Iranian Minister of Intelligence Mahmoud Alavi announced on Monday, August 27, that security forces had killed at least two militants and arrested 14 others in security operations in western Iran. Additional raids on suspected militants are possible in western Iran in the near-term.
The threat posed by militancy remains high in all of Iran's border areas, especially in the west and the east, partly due to weak border monitoring by neighboring countries including Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Turkey.
Individuals in Iran are advised to monitor developments to the situation, avoid the Iran-Iraq border region, remain vigilant for militant activity, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities and their home governments.
