On August 27, in the traditionally politically sensitive West Bengal State, clashes between rival political party workers resulted in three deaths. In Malda district's Kaliachak area, two people were killed while one more person lost life during violence in Purulia district's Joypur area. The West Bengal police experienced attacks by violent party workers; several police personnel were injured in Falakata and Chopra.
The clashes occurred two days after similar violence was reported in North Dinajpur (one killed and several injured in a blast in Islampur). Violent political rallies and demonstrations are frequently staged throughout the country.
Individuals present in West Bengal state are advised to avoid nonessential travels to Malda and Purulia districts. Please stay away from political rallies, marches and demonstrations as they may turn violent. Adhere to any instructions issued by local authorities.
