On Tuesday, August 28, the Regional Labor Union (URT) announced it had called off a general strike initially planned for Wednesday, August 29, in Medenine governorate. According to union representatives, the strike was suspended to allow for negotiations with government officials. A renewed general strike remains possible in the coming weeks should negotiations break down. The dispute is over the government's alleged failure to implement development projects in the region.
