At least one town and two villages were flooded near Swar after water breached a nearby dam on Wednesday, August 29. According to the Myanmar Fire Services Department, search-and-rescue operations are ongoing as of 10:00 (local time). The highway connecting Yangon to Mandalay and the capital city of Naypyitaw has also been closed in the area due to flooding. Water levels reportedly rose up to 1 m (3 ft) around the highway. Localized traffic disruptions are anticipated in the area in the coming hours and days.


Individuals present in affected areas are advised to monitor the situation, anticipate localized flooding and associated road hazards, and adhere to any instructions issued by local authorities.
