A protest march in support of two jailed journalists is scheduled for Saturday, September 1 in the capital of Yangon. The march take place in the Hlaing and Kamaryut townships, beginning at 15:00 (local time) at BuTar Yone bus stop on Insein road. Protesters will head south on Insein road to the Hledan junction before turning northeast on Pyay road toward Inya Lake. The march will end near Ta Dar Phyu bus stop at 18:00. Clashes between protesters and security forces cannot be ruled out.

Two journalists working with an international media company were detained in December 2017 when investigating the killing of Rohingya in Rakhine state. They were charged with breaching the Official Secrets Act and face 14 years in prison. A verdict and possible sentencing is anticipated Monday, September 3.

Individuals in Yangon should monitor developments to the situation, remain vigilant, anticipate a heightened security presence and traffic disruptions, and avoid all public gatherings as precaution.
