According to a statement made by Dutch authorities on Saturday, September 1, the suspect behind a double stabbing that took place at Amsterdam Centraal train station on Friday, August 31, had a terrorist motive. The 19-year-old suspect, who was shot and detained at the scene after attacking and injuring two people, is set to appear before a magistrate on Monday. Authorities have identified the attacker as an Afghan national in possession of a German residence permit. He is currently being questioned under guard while receiving hospital care for his gunshot wounds; an investigation into his background in ongoing. The two people injured in Friday's attack have been confirmed to be American citizens visiting the city. Their injuries, while serious, are not believed to be life-threatening. 

Train services at Amsterdam Centraal, temporarily disrupted following Friday's attack, have since returned to normal. However, an increased security presence in the area should continue to be expected. 


Individuals in Amsterdam are advised to monitor developments to the situation and to report any suspicious objects or behavior to the authorities.
