At approximately 16:45 (local time) on Tuesday, September 4, the Majerhat Bridge in Kolkata collapsed. Local police report that at least one man died in the collapse, and at least 16 people were injured. The casualty count may continue to rise, as several people are feared to have been trapped under the bridge. Cranes, fire crews, and disaster management teams have been deployed to the site of the collapse to participate in the ongoing rescue operation. An investigation into the incident will follow relief efforts. Significant transportation disruptions have been reported in South Kolkata, particularly on alternate route Durgapor Bridge. Additionally, train services in the vicinity of the collapse, including Circular Railway, have been temporarily suspended. It is unclear when service will resume.


Individuals in Kolkata are advised to avoid the site of the accident until further notice, prepare for transportation disruptions, and follow any instructions issued by the local authorities.
