TIMEFRAME expected from 9/8/2018, 12:00 AM until 9/10/2018, 11:59 PM (Asia/Baghdad). COUNTRY/REGION Koya

A missile attack on a Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan (PDKI) installation killed at least 12 people and wounded some 50 others in Koysinjaq (Erbil province) on Saturday, September 8. The Iranian Kurdish opposition party blamed Iranian forces for the attack, claiming that the missiles were fired from within Iranian territory. Additional Iranian missile attacks targeting Kurdish opposition bases are possible in Iraqi Kurdistan in the near-term.

Iran has previously launched similar indirect fire attacks on Kurdish opposition groups in Iraq; on September 7, the PDKI claimed that its installations had been shelled on September 6.

Individuals in Iraqi Kurdistan are advised to monitor developments to the situation and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities and their home governments.

The security environment in Iraq remains complex. Although travel is possible in some areas (with proper security protocols in place), other areas should be considered strictly off-limits. Professional security advice and support should be sought prior to all travel.
