The 2018 World Firefighters Games (WFG) kicked off in Chungju on Sunday, September 9. The sporting event will run until September 18 in the city - located 150 km (95 mi) southeast of Seoul - and six neighboring towns: Cheongju, Eumseong, Goesan, Danyang, Jecheon, and Jincheon. The event - dubbed the "the mini-Olympics for firefighters" - brings together 6000 firefighters from across the globe. Road diversions and crowded conditions are possible near competition sites.


Individuals in the above areas are advised to adhere to any instructions issued by the local authorities. On a separate note, visitors should note that the games are taking place during the typhoon season, which runs from June to November; monitor the progress of any approaching storms.
