Military parade planned in Baku on September 15; heightened security measures and localized transportation disruptions expected

A military parade is set to take place in Baku on Saturday, September 15, to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the liberation of the city. President Ilham Aliyev and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan are expected to attend the event, which will be held at Azadliq Square and on Neftchilar Avenue. Heightened security measures and localized transportation disruptions (including road closures) are expected in the vicinity of the event.


On September 15, 1918, the Caucasian Islamic Army led by Turkish and Azerbaijani soldiers liberated the city of Baku from Armenian-Bolshevik occupation. On September 17, Baku became the capital of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic.
