Violent clashes broke out in Djugu (Ituri province) on Sunday, September 16, after militants from a rebel coalition attacked Armed Forces (FARDC) regiments near Lake Albert along the Uganda border. According to local media, the fighting continued through Monday, September 17; at least 11 people have been killed and thousands of civilians have been displaced. Additional related clashes are possible in the area over the coming hours and days.


Local sources have reported that the rebel coalition has taken control of three localities in Fizi territory and are demanding participation in the current electoral process or the resignation of President Joseph Kabila.


Individuals present along the DRC-Uganda border are advised to monitor developments in the situation, remain vigilant, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities and their home governments.
