Pro Chemnitz, a far-right group, is planning to hold another rally in the city of Chemnitz on Friday, September 21. Participants will gather at the Karl Marx monument starting at 18:30 (local time). Counter-demonstrations by anti-fascist groups are possible. Heightened security measures, including an increased police presence, and localized traffic disruptions are anticipated at all protest sites. Clashes between rival protesters, as well as between demonstrators and security forces, cannot be ruled out.
Far-right groups have been holding demonstrations in several cities in Germany since August following allegations of migrants attacking German citizens. Violent protests have taken place in Chemnitz since late August and early September after a German man was fatally stabbed on August 26 and two men of Iraqi and Syrian origin were subsequently arrested for his death. The Iraqi man was reportedly released on September 18 after a court hearing. According to the man’s lawyer, the prosecutors were unable to present any evidence linking him to the stabbing.
Individuals in Chemnitz are advised to monitor developments to the situation, avoid all protests and demonstrations as a precaution, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities.
