Algeria: Heavy rain and flooding in Constantine; transportation disruptions

Algeria News Alert

Constantine hit by heavy rainfall and associated flooding on September 19; continued transportation disruptions expected in coming days

TIMEFRAME expected from 9/20/2018, 12:00 AM until 9/25/2018, 11:59 PM (Africa/Algiers). COUNTRY/REGION Constantine province

Heavy rainfall and associated flooding impacted Hama Bouziane as well as the Daksi and Boum areas of provincial capital Constantine, in the Constantine province, on Wednesday, September 19. Two deaths as well as several missing people have been reported. The RN27 and RN79 roads in the north of Constantine have been partially closed. Associated transportation disruptions are expected to continue into the coming days.

Heavy rains have affected Algeria in recent weeks, resulting in several deaths.

Individuals in the affected areas are advised to monitor local weather reports, anticipate heavy flooding and transportation, logistics, and power disruptions, monitor road closure reports, and adhere to all instructions issued by local authorities. Remember that driving or walking through running water can be dangerous - 15 cm (6 in) of running water is enough to knock over an adult - and that floodwater may contain wastewater and chemical products; all items having come into contact with floodwater should be disinfected and all foodstuffs discarded.
