Israel/Palestinian Terr.: Disruptions expected during Sukkot holiday Sep. 23-30

Israel News Alert

Israel celebrates the Jewish holiday of Sukkot from September 23 to 30; transportation disruptions are expected in Jerusalem September 27

TIMEFRAME expected from 9/21/2018, 12:00 AM until 9/30/2018, 11:59 PM (Asia/Jerusalem). COUNTRY/REGION Jerusalem

Event

Israel will celebrate the Jewish holiday of Sukkot from Sunday, September 23, to Sunday, September 30. During this period, border crossings allowing passage from Israel to the West Bank and the Gaza Strip (Palestinian Territories) will be closed. Associated marches are set to take place in Jerusalem on Thursday, September 27; marchers will gather at three points - Ramot, Safra Square, and Mount Scopus - and converge at Sacher Park, where a ceremonial gathering will be held in the afternoon. Traffic in the vicinity of the Old City will be restricted on this day and heightened security measures will be in place.

Advice

Individuals in Israel are advised to allow additional time to reach their destinations and avoid public gatherings due to the potential for violence, especially in Jerusalem. As a reminder, some Western governments advise their citizens against all travel to the West Bank, the Gaza Strip, and areas near the Lebanese, Syrian, and Egyptian borders.
