The official electoral campaign period ahead of the October 7 presidential elections will run from September 22 to October 6. During this period, an increase in political rallies and demonstrations, as well as associated transportation disruptions, are to be expected throughout the country, notably in the capital Yaoundé and in Douala, the country's largest city. Outbreaks of violent unrest cannot be ruled out. Heightened security measures will be implemented nationwide, particularly in the Northwest and Southwest Anglophone regions, which continue to be affected by an armed separationist crisis since October 2016.

Some 6.6 million electors are called to the polls to choose their next president. Candidates include current President Paul Biya, in office since 1982, and eight others. The main opposition party, Social Democratic Front (SDF), will be running Joshua Osih.

Individuals in Cameroon are advised to closely monitor developments and avoid any rallies, protests, or other large public gatherings due to the potential for unrest.
