At least three organizations are planning on holding protests at Riad El Solh Square in Beirut on Monday, September 24, and Tuesday, September 25. The Waste Management Coalition is calling on members and supporters to gather at the square on Monday at 10:00 (local time) to protest a proposed law on solid waste management. On Tuesday, the Committee of Full Time Professors at Lebanese University will also gather at 10:00 in support of a pension bill. Later in the day, the National Federation of Worker and Employee Trade Unions is planning to demonstrate at 17:30 against proposed tax increases. Heightened security measures and localized traffic disruptions are anticipated in the area.
The demonstrations are being held during parliamentary sessions on the same days which aim to pass several pieces of legislation.
Individuals in Beirut are advised to avoid all protests and demonstrations as a precaution and adhere to any instructions issued by the local authorities.
