Another protest march is set to take place in the capital San Salvador on Tuesday, July 3, to denounce perceived plans by the ARENA (Alianza Republicana Nacionalista) political party to privatize the provision of water services. Demonstrators are expected to march to the National Assembly building (Asamblea Legislativa). Further such protests are to be anticipated in the coming days and weeks.
Various related protests have taken place in the past few weeks, most recently on July 1 when student protesters blocked roads near the University of El Salvador (UES) in the capital. Another such protest held in front of the National Assembly building was forcibly dispersed by security forces using tear gas on June 14. Further violence cannot be ruled out.
Individuals in El Salvador are advised to avoid all protests as a precaution.
