The Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council (BHBCUC) is expected to hold a rally at Suhrawardy Udyan in Dhaka on Friday, September 28. According to the council’s leaders, the organization is concerned about the security of religious and ethnic minorities during parliamentary elections that are expected to be held in December 2018. Minority leaders fear that there will be an increase in attacks and harassment targeting their communities in the coming months. A heightened security presence and localized traffic disruptions are anticipated around Suhrawardy Udyan during the rally.
The BHBCUC is a non-profit organization that was created to protect the rights of religious and ethnic minorities in the country. It is comprised of 21 separate groups that focus on raising awareness of the minority communities’ issues.
Individuals in Dhaka are advised to avoid all protests and demonstrations as a precaution and obey all instructions issued by the local authorities.
