Opposition parties and civil society groups have called for nationwide protests to take place on Saturday, September 29. The demonstrations are being organized to protest the policies of President Roch Marc Christian Kaboré and growing insecurity in the country. The main demonstration will take place in the capital Ouagadougou and is set to begin at 08:00 (local time) at Place de la Révolution (formerly known as Place de la Nation). Protesters will then march onto Avenue Monseigneur Thévenoud, Avenue de la Cathédrale, Avenue Kwamé N'Krumah, and return to Place de la Révolution, where a political rally will be held.
An increased security presence and localized transportation disruptions are to be expected near the demonstrations. Though the protest in the capital has been authorized by the Ouagadougou authorities, scuffles between protesters and security forces cannot be ruled out.
Individuals in Burkina Faso are advised to monitor developments to the situation, avoid all protests due to the risk of localized unrest, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities.
