Communist party officials have announced that funeral services for President Trần Đại Quang are set to take place in Hanoi on Wednesday, September 26, and Thursday, September 27. Large crowds are expected to attend the memorial services which will begin at 07:00 (local time) on both days at the National Funeral Hall. Recreational and entertainment events have been canceled on Wednesday and Thursday. Transportation disruptions are expected in the vicinity of the funeral services and especially in the areas of Hai Bà Trưng, Hoàn Kiếm, and Ba Đình, as well as along the Đường vành đai 3 (CT20) highway.
President Trần Đại Quang, who held a ceremonial position, passed away on September 21 from a viral illness. He will be buried in his home village in northern Ninh Binh province on September 27
Individuals present in Hanoi are advised to anticipate disruptions to daily life (e.g. transportation disruptions, business closures, etc.) on September 26 and 27 and to be respectful of local sensitivities during the mourning period.
