The Free Union of Teachers and Researchers of Guinea (SLECG) have announced that they intend to stage an indefinite nationwide strike starting from Wednesday, October 3, the scheduled back-to-school day. Associated student protests are possible.
Numerous similar strikes and related violent student protests have been held in Guinea in 2017-2018. Teachers are demanding the implementation of a wage increase. However, the government has refused to accept their demands.
Individuals in Guinea, particularly Conakry, are advised to remain vigilant and avoid all protests.
