Kazakhstan’s Department of Internal Affairs announced that a counter-terrorism exercise will be held at the Almaty International Airport (ALA) on Thursday, September 27. According to officials, some areas in and around ALA may be restricted during the drills, causing disruptions to airport operations and longer travel times in the area. It is unclear if flights will be disrupted at ALA.
Individuals traveling to or through ALA are advised to confirm flight reservations before leaving for the airport, obey all instructions issued by the local authorities, and anticipate an increased security presence at the airport.
