Event

A strike by Slovenian police forces resumed in the capital Ljubljana on Monday, October 1, to demand an average wage increase of about 15 percent. Although no strike-related incident  has been reported yet, associated protests are possible. Other public sector unions, such as those representing teachers and nurses, are also demanding higher wages, which could prompt further public sector strikes and protests in the coming days or weeks.

Context

Public sector strikes initially began in February but were suspended in March as the previous prime minister resigned. This prompted an early parliamentary election in June, which led to a center-left government to take power.

Advice

Individuals in Slovenia are advised to monitor the situation and avoid all protests as a precaution.
