Belgium: National demonstrations October 2
Event
A demonstration planned by various trade unions is set to take place on Tuesday, October 2, in Brussels, to protest government reforms to the country's pension system. Protesters will gather at 10:00 (local time) at Place de l'Aubertine before marching via Impératrice, Berlaimont, Pachéco and Jardin Botanique boulevards. The demonstration will terminate at the Central Station, after having passed through Bischoffsheim boulevard and the following roads: Congrès, Royale, Ligne, Marquis, Loxum, and Cantersteen. Traffic disruptions in the city center can be expected, as well as disruptions to bus, tram, and metro services provided by the Brussels Intercommunal Transport Company (STIB), including bus services to and from Brussels-Zaventem International Airport (BRU).
Other protests are planned in the country, notably in the Wallonia region, which will affect services provided by the Walloon Regional Transport Company. Operations on Belgium's national railway should not be impacted.
Advice
Individuals present in Belgium, notably Brussels, are advised to allow for additional time to reach their destinations and avoid all protests as a precaution.
