A public transportation strike is set to take in the city of Rome and in the Lazio and Abruzzo regions, on Friday, October 12. The strike will be held all day in cities throughout Lazio region, and from 09:00 to 13:00 (local time) in Abruzzo. In Rome, the Cambia-Menti trade union has called for a 24-hour strike, while other unions have called for employees to strike from 08:30 to 12:30. Reduced services, delays, and overcrowding on buses, trams, metros, and commuter rail lines are likely during and following strike periods. Increased traffic congestion and demand for taxis is also possible in urban areas.
Transportation-related strikes are common in Italy and can be highly disruptive. However, in accordance with Italian law, minimum levels of services must be guaranteed during all strikes.
Travelers in Italy are advised to allow for extra time to reach their destinations.
