India News Alert

A homemade bomb kills one child and wounds nine other people in a Kolkata suburb on October 2

TIMEFRAME expected from 10/2/2018, 12:00 AM until 10/7/2018, 11:59 PM (Asia/Kolkata). COUNTRY/REGION India

A small homemade explosive detonated on Tuesday, October 2, killing a child and wounding nine other people in a northern Kolkata (West Bengal) suburb. The device exploded in front of the offices of the Trinamool Congress Party (TMC) in Nagerbazar area at 09:00 (local time). A local TMC chairman accused political opponents of planting the explosive. No group has yet taken responsibility for the incident. Heightened political tensions and protests, including demonstrations against local hospitals accused of slow treatment, cannot be ruled out in the coming days or weeks.

Individuals in West Bengal, particularly Kolkata, are advised to remain vigilant, report suspicious activity or packages to local authorities, adhere to instructions issued by local authorities, and avoid public gatherings as a precaution.
