Thailand News Alert

More heavy rain and storms expected nationwide until October 7 nationwide

TIMEFRAME expected from 10/3/2018, 12:00 AM until 10/8/2018, 11:59 PM (Asia/Bangkok). COUNTRY/REGION Thailand

Event

The Thai Meteorological Department has forecasted heavy rain and thunderstorms nationwide, including in the capital Bangkok, until Sunday, October 7, as the monsoon expands from north to south to cover the entire country. Several villages in Surat Thani province were affected by flash floods overnight October 1-2, which left one person dead. The provinces of Phuket and Trang have similarly been affected since October 1.

Advice

Individuals throughout Thailand are advised to stay abreast of local weather reports, adhere to instructions given by local authorities, anticipate transportation, power, and telecommunication disruptions, and avoid flood-prone areas until the situation stabilizes. Remember that driving or walking through running water can be dangerous - 15 cm (6 in) of running water is enough to knock over an adult - and that floodwater may contain wastewater and chemical products; all items having come into contact with the water should be disinfected and all foodstuffs discarded.
