Four Chinese nationals killed during violent demonstration in Sosso-Nakombo on Oct. 4; avoid all protests

Violent demonstrations broke out in Sosso-Nakombo (Mambéré-Kadéï prefecture) on Thursday, October 4, following the death of a local community leader when a boat capsized on the Kadéï River. According to local sources, the community leader was accompanying a group of Chinese nationals working for a mining company when their boat capsized. Following the incident, a violent demonstration broke out in which at least four Chinese nationals were killed and several others severely wounded. Tensions remain high in Sosso-Nakombo, and further unrest is possible in the coming days.  


Individuals present in CAR, particularly Sosso-Nakombo, are advised to monitor local developments, maintain a high degree of situational awareness, and remain vigilant.

In general, a number of Western governments advise their citizens against travel to most of the east of the country for various security reasons, including the presence of armed groups.
