Uganda: Heightened security presence for Independence Day Oct. 9

Heightened security presence for Independence Day celebrations on October 9
Event
Uganda will hold Independence Day celebrations on Tuesday, October 9, to celebrate the country's 56th anniversary of independence from British rule. Events will be held nationwide, with the most significant celebrations taking place in Kampala. On Friday, September 28, Ugandan police issued a "Public Security" warning ahead of Independence Day, warning that the risk of attacks by militant and criminal groups may rise on October 9, and advising individuals to remain vigilant. A heightened security presence is therefore expected throughout Uganda ahead of and during Independence Day celebrations. Localized transportation disruptions are to be anticipated in the vicinity of any events.
Advice
Individuals in Uganda, particularly in Kampala, are advised to closely monitor the situation, avoid all protests and demonstrations as a precaution, and to report any suspicious objects or behavior to the authorities.
