A shooting in central Bangkok on Sunday, October 7, ended with one foreign tourist dead and four others wounded. A dispute in a nearby bar around 20:30 (local time) between two groups of young men led to a shooting and resulted in stray bullets from automatic weapons striking members of a tour group. The incident occurred near Centrara Watergate Pavillion Hotel in Ratchathewi district's Pratunam neighborhood.
Violent crime, particularly that targeting foreign tourists, remains low. Non-confrontational crime and crimes of opportunity are more common. US Department of State rates the city as "low-threat" in its 2018 Crime & Safety Report.
Individuals in Bangkok are advised to remain vigilant and report any criminal incidents to the local police.
